Find Me - Get Swag @ PAX

Where's V-Singular (@PAX)

Starting Thursday, September 2nd, I'll be walking around downtown Seattle and joining thousands of others at the Penny Aracde Expo, better known as PAX.  Along with me on the trip will be a messenger bag with some Saints Row swag inside.

If you want something from it, all you need to do is perform a real-world "Where's Waldo" and find me either on the show floor or somewhere around downtown Seattle before I leave on the 6th.  Just walk up to me, say "Hello" or some combination of words that hopefully does not contain an expletive, and we'll find something in my bag-o-swag for you (as long as supplies last).

As many of you on the Saints Row Community know, the best way to find me is to look for my sideburns.  Here's my employee photo on the Volition website.  I'll also be wearing either a Red Faction or Saints Row shirt each day of PAX (probably with a Volition logo on the front), so that should make me easier to find.  Hopefully I'll get to meet a few of our awesome community members on the show floor, and you'll even get some awesome Saints Row swag!

You can also follow me on Twitter as I'll probably toss out my location on the show floor from time to time - @One_Letter

Side contest: First person to find Waldo in the header image and post his location in the comments will get a mini prize pack mailed to them!

Saints Row Double Pack Coming Soon

What's better than one Johnny Gat?  I'll give you a moment to think of an answer.

If you answered two Johnny Gat's (with four Kobra's), you would be correct!  The reason we asked this question is because the Saints Row Double Pack is ready to hit the shelves and continue to spread word of the Third Street Saints to those outside of Stilwater starting next month.  This is a great opportunity for your friends who may have not played a Saints Row game yet.  Not only can they learn the full history of the Third Street Saints from the beginning of the series, but once they get to Saints Row 2, both of you can enjoy the full experience of drop-in/drop-out co-op and take back Stilwater for the Saints.

Be anyone you want. Have fun your way. Change everything.  That's what Saints Row has always been, and will continue to be about.  The Saints Row Double Pack will be released in stores on September 7th in North America.  You can pre-order it now from GameStop and get both games for only $29.99.

We Have a Winner!

As many of you know, we recently held a charity auction with the prize ultimately being heard by millions of gamers as the voice a pedestrian in Saints Row 3.  All of the proceeds collected were to be given to the Ashley Ames Foundation, we --and main organizer Steve Jaros, Writer for Volition-- were hoping to have a few people bid to raise some money for a great cause.  Little did we know that the bidding wars had already begun.

Starting at $300, the auction slowly began to climb.  After two days, we saw $500 on the screen and were overjoyed.  But then it all stopped.  Three days passed without a single bid.  Kotaku, Destructoid, and a few other gaming editorial sites had helped to spread the word, but still the amount did not increase.  Suddenly, the bids started to jump.

$600, $620, $640, $680, $700 - Someone really wanted to win this spot and kept increasing it in $20 increments.

$750, $800, $850, $900 - The increments began to grow larger as time was running out with only 24 hours left to bid.

I remember leaving the office with the current high bid sitting at $1,200 and e-mailing numerous members of the team, excited over how much had been raised.  20 minutes later I sat glued to my computer screen at home, letting eBay automatically refresh every few minutes.

When all was said and done, we had our winning bidder at $1,725!  And that bidder is none other than CheapyD, owner and CEO of CheapAssGamer.com.  For long-time SR Community members, this isn't the first time CheapyD has been mentioned here.  I still remember way back in October of 2008 when he shared his custom avatar with us (which you can see on the right) and spent a very large portion of CAGCast #138 talking about everything Saints Row 2.  Maybe if we ask him nicely, he'll even share his slider values for his custom character.

Thank you again to CheapyD and all of the generous individuals that either bid on the auction, or donated money to http://www.supportashleyames.com (You can still donate at that link as well).  We knew the Saints Row Community was full of amazing, giving individuals, but all of you exceeded even our lofty expectations.

Want To Be a Voice Actor in Saints Row 3?

Within the Saints Row Community Site, we generally post about news surrounding Stilwater, violent gangs, or pimp slaps, but this time, we're reaching out to all of our fans for a topic much more serious.

Ashley Ames, 23, lived and worked in Urbana, Illinois earning money to return to school. In the early morning of May 29, 2010, the house where she lived with her four roommates caught fire. Her roommates got out safely, but Ashley had to be airlifted to Springfield's Memorial Hospital, where they have a specialized burns unit. She was burned on 80% of her body. Ashley fought harder than anyone could ever imagine. On July 6th, we lost Ashley due to an infection and the injuries she sustained. Ashley may no longer be with us, but her memory, strength and inspiration will live on forever. This benefit is being organized and run by her loving family and friends.

Many of you may not know, but Volition is located in Champaign, IL, situated right next to Urbana.  This story hit the entire community, and especially for our Senior Writer, Steve Jaros, who has been working increasingly hard to help out a family in need.

To help out, Volition is auctioning off a voice acting role in Saints Row 3.  Note that this is for a pedestrian, but as Steve mentioned to Kotaku:

" 'You will get to scream, curse, be hit by cars and shoot guns.'  If the winner asks nicely, he adds, [Steve] might even write something specific for the winner."

If you or someone you love (who is over 18) would like to have their voice be heard by millions of players, this is the item for you.  Note that at this time, you will need to provide transportation to Volition for the recording, but if bidding gets high enough, we'll see what can be worked out.

For those of you that want to donate directly to Support Ashley Ames, you can use this link to donate any amount you wish through PayPal.

We would also like to give thanks all of the other game studios and developers that contributed items for the charity auction.  To read more about how you can help out, please visit http://www.supportashleyames.com/.  If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask away in the comment thread below.

Got $5? Get SR2 PC!

About two weeks back --July 2nd to be exact-- were you mysteriously taken hostage by a roving gang of thugs, unable to get to your computer since your hands were tied behind your back while being taken to an unknown location?  The reason I ask is because I received an e-mail from a fan stating exactly the above, and they happened to miss out on the 75% off deal from Steam.

While $20 is still a crazy good price for Saints Row 2 PC, we wanted to see if we could help one of our fans.  After a few phone calls and some voice-mails later, THQ decides to go a step further and drops this insane 75% off sale on select PC games over on their store!  Not only can you pick up SR2 for a piece of paper with Abraham Lincoln's portrait on it (or 500 in coin form), but you can also pick up just about every other THQ title for 75% off between today and July 20th.  Please note that this is only for residents of the US at this time.

A few notables below in addition to Saints Row 2:

Red Faction: Guerrilla (Another Volition title) - $5
Company of Heroes® Gold Edition - $7.50
Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II - $7.50
John Deere: Drive Green - $2.50

All of the other PC deals can be found here

It's time to expand my PC library with a few purchases, and the fan that wrote in above can finally fulfill his dream, unless that gang comes back again...
