Community Downtime Announcement - 01/25/10

I've been waiting for a long time to use that animated GIF again. Worth every minute of waiting...

Ignoring my obsession with images saved from a Geocities website, we're going to be performing some maintenance to The Row, which includes moving to a new forum. We'll be transferring over all of the posts and your username will remain the same once we re-open the updated community website. More than likely you'll be required to set a brand new password, which is purely for security reasons. I highly recommend that all active members check to ensure that their e-mail address is the current one they want associated with their account which can be found in the User Control Panel.

We're planning to shut down the community site for maintenance starting on Monday, January 25th, but this date is subject to change. During the outage, you will not be able to login or access any of the information found on the community website, and it will likely take a few days to get everything migrated over and working properly. Once we open up the new community website, I'll have a thread open specifically within the Forum Feedback section asking for any bug reports and feature requests. There are quite a few upgrades that our community members have been asking for which will be integrated into the upgraded site, and I'll list them out once we've completed the migration. If you have any questions, please ask in the comment thread below.

Customized Characters From the Dev Team

If you haven't checked out the Official Post Your Character Thread in the forums, please do so now. There are tons of characters listed there which have been painstakingly created by our player base and separated into multiple categories. I guarantee you'll be able to find one that will work within your game and lend a whole new feel to your next playthrough.

Along those lines, have you ever wondered what kind of creations were made by the development team using the customization system found in SR2 before the game was released? Many of these were shared around the office through e-mail and I've been able to collect some together in a Brady Bunch arrangement for your amusement. I've chosen just a few that have a semi-common denominator of games and movies, but there have been tons more. Can you figure out each one below? Maybe you can even make an accompanying character to go alongside them in co-op...

SR1 Gets Games on Demand Price Drop

Take a quick look at your calendar. If you've flipped the page correctly, or bought a new one, it should say 2010 at the top which means it's been nearly 4 years since the original Saints Row was released on Xbox 360. Over that time span, we've seen a lot of changes on the 360, with one of the most notable being the ability to digitally download and play games without ever having to leave the comfort of your couch.

Microsoft's Games on Demand service currently has both of the Saints Row titles available (SR1 - SR2), and starting later today according to Major Nelson, the original Saints Row will see a price drop. If you've managed to go nearly 4 years without playing the game that started the series, and own a 360, your excuses are starting to run out.

Oh, and that mysterious figure on the right? That's Chicken Ned. For a cluckin' good time, call him at 555-2445. His car is amazing.

Holiday Giveaway Results

Before the week long holiday that occurs the last week of December, I asked for submissions from the community for a holiday giveaway. The only requirements were that it had to involve the holidays and the Saints Row series in some way. Any medium could be used, and our community headed off into the night to create their masterpieces.

Two weeks and a heap full of submissions later, we were ready for voting. Once the dust had cleared from the 72-hour voting window with the lead moving back and forth between a few entries, our top three were selected, which you can view after the jump.

Update: You can now vote for your favorite entries here. Poll closes on the 24th.

When you think of December and Saints Row, what comes to mind? If you said "Santa with a shotgun!", then you're ready to enter this giveaway. Your task is fairly simple, and could even mean an extra present for you during this holiday season. All you need to do is create a Saints Row themed image or video that has to do with one of the many December holidays, and post it up in the official entry thread. You can take a screenshot straight from the game, paint a picture, or make a Saints Row themed video. As long as it has to do with the holidays and Saints Row in some way, you're entered for a chance to win.

As a reminder, if you have the original Saints Row, you can download the "Ho Ho Ho Pack" for free at any time just by clicking here. For those unaware, this pack will grant you a Santa-themed coat, hat, boots and hair-style. Easily worth the two minute download.

This giveaway begins today (Dec. 10th) and will run until midnight CST on Saturday, December 19th. The chosen winner will receive a Saints Row 2 prize package which includes a limited edition Saints Row 2 basketball jersey (size: XL) and a promotional poster, plus other SR related swag.

Good luck to all who enter and be creative!
